Former Brentford winger Ricky Shakes has revealed he is set to sign for Blue Square Premier League side Wrexham.

Shakes was told he would not be having his contract renewed by Bees boss Andy Scott at the end of last season.

The 23-year-old started 25 league games, scoring three goals in the 2007/08 campaign and believed he had done enough to be offered a new deal at Griffin Park.

Shakes told the Richmond & Twickenham Times: "Wrexham are the only side to have shown an interest - there is nothing else on the table, so that looks like the most likely option at the moment.

"I thought I had done enough to stay another year but I see moving down a league as a challenge for me to try and push myself back up the ladder again to where I was."
