Wayne Hennessey concedes Matt Murray is a major threat in his bid to keep hold of the goalkeeper's jersey.
Murray missed the whole of last season due to a serious knee injury but is hoping to return to full fitness in time for the pre-season friendlies and wants his first-team place back.
Hennessey told the club's official website: "You work so closely with the other keepers at a club that they also end up becoming your mates and I'm delighted Matt is making good progress.
"But at the end of the day there's only one jersey and you've got to grab it."
Hennessey added: "The fans love Matt and he's been fantastic for Wolves, so it is a bit of added pressure on my back, but that's what you need to keep you on your toes and keep your standards high.
"Hopefully I can go into the season and keep the number one shirt, but I know I'll have to keep working because Matt Murray wants the shirt as much as I do."
