Aston Villa central defender Curtis Davies admits he is braced for an "interesting reception" when he returns to West Brom for the first time with Martin O'Neill's side next season.

Davies, well on the road to recovery from a ruptured Achilles, was viewed as public enemy number one by some Baggies fans when he joined Villa on loan last season - a transfer that became permanent earlier this week.

The former Luton player was booed when he turned out in a pre-season game for Albion last summer before he moved to Villa at the end of the August transfer window.

But Davies has no regrets about the move and believes West Brom will be able to invest heavily from the money they acquired for his services - believed to be around £8 million and he told PA Sport: "The Albion fans booed me in a friendly but that is expected, with the way things are portrayed to fans being different to what the reality is.

"I wanted to leave because of my ambitions and because I left on the last day of the transfer window, it seems a bit as if I was hung out to dry.

"It was one of those things. I know they were booing me at the start of that friendly game but then they tried to clap me off the pitch. It shows fans can change their minds very quickly. The main thing for me is I'm at the club where I want to be and I just need to concentrate on my football now and press on - but it will be an interesting reception at the Hawthorns!"
