Stockport have appointed local businessman Martin Reid as chairman of the newly-promoted League One club.

Reid succeeds Norman Beverley, who has stepped down to concentrate on his role as club director.

County managing director Mark Maguire said: "The change of chairmanship is part of the natural progression of County as we seek to put in place all of the structure which will deliver a solid commercial business with an infrastructure which will support (manager) Jim (Gannon) and the players as we seek to create a Championship club in the future.

"Martin has been asked by the board to chair meetings and allocate responsibilities to board members as well as creating an ever more credible business-like structure."

Reid added: "It's a great honour for me to have been asked to be chairman of County, especially in the club's 125th anniversary year and at a time of huge success on the pitch."
