The summer transfer window extended into September and saw Manchester City become the richest club in the world and signed Robinho for a British transfer fee of £32.5m from Real Madrid. Dimitar Berbatov moved from Tottenham to Manchester United for £30m.
Alan Curbishley left West Ham and was then replaced by Gianfranco Zola. Kevin Keegan resigned from Newcastle, Chris Hughton stepped in as caretaker manager.
Liverpool beat Manchester United for the first time under management of Rafa Benitez. Hull went the seaonn unbeaten and amazingly finished off the month with a victory over Arsenal.
Do not forget that the pain of having to wait until August 15, when the 2009/10 season kicks off, for your next fix of top-flight football can be eased by returning every Monday to see what our next Premier League review will be focussing on, beginning this week when we reveal our Virgin Media Team of the Season.
