Ganguly calls time

India batsman Sourav Ganguly has confirmed he will retire from international cricket following the forthcoming Test series with Australia.

Speaking in Bangalore, the former captain said: "This is going to be my last series.

"I've decided to quit. I have already told my team-mates that this would be my last series.

"Hopefully I will go on a winning note.''

Ganguly, who has played in 109 Test matches since making his debut in 1996, also revealed his family had received threats that his daughter would be kidnapped.

The left-hander, now 36, averages 41.74 in Tests and has made 15 hundreds, the first of which came on debut against England.

The four-match series against the Australians gets under way on Thursday.
