Russia 2-1 Wales
A second missed penalty of the week cost Wales dearly as a late Pavel Pogrebnyak goal earned Russia a barely deserved win in Moscow.
Gareth Bale had a golden chance to give Wales a shock lead after 19 minutes when he was clattered by Sergei Semak, but the Spurs left-back's penalty was saved by Igor Akinfeev. New club team-mate at Tottenham Roman Pavlyunchenko showed him how to do it from the spot six minutes later and Russia were in front.
In the second half Wales fought back and levelled when midway through the second half, Bale set up a great chance for Joe Ledley who slid the ball home.
However, Russia took a decisive lead with ten minutes left when Andrei Arshavin's trickery set up Pogrebnyak whose first shot was clawed away by keeper Wayne Hennessey, but his second attempt made no mistake.
Iceland 1-2 Scotland
A badly needed three points for George Burley's men came thanks to goals from Kirk Broadfoot and Barry Robson. Broadfoot's header came from a Robson corner in the first half, while Robson himself made it 2-0 after James McFadden's spot-kick was saved. Eidar Gudjohnsen pulled one back for the Icelanders when Stephen McManus handled in the area and was sent off, but the Scots held on to redeem themselves after Saturday's defeat in Macedonia.
Northern Ireland 0-0 Czech Republic
A creditable goalless draw for Nigel Worthington's men against one of the world's top sides at a wet and windy Windsor Park. Both sides had chances in the first half though David Healy blazed possibly the best chance of all wide in the last minute.
