Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson admitted his side's 1-1 draw at Notts County felt like a defeat.

The Shrews were on course to consign new Magpies boss Hans Backe to a defeat in his first game in charge when Jamie Devitt opening the scoring in the first half.

But Graeme Lee's late equaliser denied Simpson's side all three points.

Simpson said: "Everybody was talking about Notts County before the game and their new manager, but we showed what we are capable of with a fantastic performance.

"A lot of the football we played was excellent and I couldn't fault the lads' work rate. The game was always on a knife-edge at 1-0, but we had enough chances to win it ourselves.

"We thoroughly deserved a point, but if I'm honest the result feels like a defeat and we are going away disappointed that we didn't take all three points."
