Deon Burton hopes to maintain his form for Jamaica this summer in pursuit of a place in the Owls' starting line-up.

The 31-year-old striker, who has played five times for the Reggae Boyz during the English close season, faces added competition for places come August with the return to fitness of Akpo Sodje and Francis Jeffers.

Burton told the club's official website: "I've had a really good summer with Jamaica so I'll be looking to take that form into the games with Wednesday.

"I want to play well, score some goals and make it hard for the gaffer to leave me out come the first game of the season against Burnley.

"But we're all trying to do the same thing. There are 22 players and only 11 shirts so hopefully one of them fits me."

Wednesday take on HFC Haarlem in their opening match of their mini tour of Holland.
