New loan signing Jimmy Smith has hinted he could stay at Sheffield Wednesday beyond six months.

The 21-year-old Chelsea midfielder, at Stamford Bridge since the age of nine, has signed to stay with Brian Laws' squad initially until January 10, but hopes to stay longer.

Smith told the club's official website: "I'm here until January but if I'm in a position to stay longer, that means I'll be doing well for Sheffield Wednesday and that's what I'm aiming for.

"I'm honoured to be here and I'm focussed on impressing the manager and the fans here.

"I have plenty of Championship games under the belt and that can only be a good thing when you come to a big club like Sheffield Wednesday."
