New signing James O'Connor believes his move to Sheffield Wednesday can be a crucial step in his career.

The 28-year-old is expected to complete the formalities on a three-year deal next week and become Brian Laws' first signing of the summer.

The midfielder joins on a free transfer having rejected a contract extension with former club Burnley.

O'Connor told the club's official website: "I can't wait to get started, I'm really looking forward to it.

"It's a new challenge at a club with new training methods and that's a really good thing for my career at this stage."
