Nigel Adkins praised the professionalism of his Scunthorpe side following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Doncaster.

The Iron, watched from the stands at the Keepmoat Stadium by former boss Brian Laws, raced into an early lead as Ian Morris headed home Kevan Hurst's corner and looked set to claim a deserved victory before Stuart Elliott netted late on.

Nevertheless, Adkins saluted the manner in which his players dominated a game played in sultry conditions.

"We played the game for a purpose because Doncaster are an excellent passing side and we are delighted with how we performed," beamed boss Adkins.

"We've come with a defensive mindset and we've done that very, very well. We know we can play football. We know we can go and be nice and positive and we did create several opportunities and scored a good goal from a set-play.

"All in all, we are very happy with the workout. It was a hot day and some players got 90 minutes and some didn't and we kept a nice disciplined performance about ourselves and that's critical for where we want to go."
