Widnes Vikings have been given a warning by the Rugby Football League after fans invaded the pitch at Bloomfield Road at the end of the Northern Rail Cup final victory in July.

The Vikings were handed a £500 fine, which was suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of breaching the League's operational rules on misconduct of spectators.

Widnes chief executive Alex Bonney said: "Whilst appreciating the fact that our fans were excited with the victory over Barrow, with the added bonus of the Super League application eligibility, the fact is that by transgressing onto the pitch the rules were broken and it is the club that suffers."

Bonney added: "The vast majority of fans were a credit to the club but unfortunately the behaviour of the minority has brought the club into disrepute and we cannot afford this to happen again."
