Rochdale have agreed terms on a one-year deal with Ciaran Toner and the midfielder is set to put pen to paper next week.

The former Tottenham trainee has secured the release from his contract with League Two rivals Grimsby and will become Dale's first summer signing.

Toner faces an immediate return to Blundell Park as Keith Hill's men begin their 2008-09 campaign away to the Mariners.

A statement on Rochdale's official website said: "Keith Hill is on the verge of making the first addition to his squad with midfielder Ciaran Toner having agreed terms on a one-year deal that he is due to sign early next week."
