Rochdale boss Keith Hill admits the League Two outfit struggle to compete with their rivals for players' signatures.

Hill is working hard behind the scenes to bring new faces to Spotland as his side seek to bounce back from last season's League Two play-off final defeat.

But he acknowledged that matching the financial muscle of many other League One and Two clubs can prove impossible at times.

Hill said: "When we are competing against the likes of Oldham, Shrewsbury, Darlington, Peterborough and MK Dons, we struggle.

"We are trying but one thing that Dave (Flitcroft) and I have learned is that we can't compete.

"The players that we have been chasing have chosen to go to other clubs because they are probably higher in the food chain than us at this moment in time, irrespective of what we achieved last season."
