Rochdale assistant manager Dave Flitcroft revealed the decision to place winger Ben Muirhead on the transfer list can be attributed to the club's desire to make progress.
The former Manchester United trainee has one year remaining on his contract and scored the winning penalty which took Dale to the League Two play-off final last month.
However, the Spotland outfit are now seeking to offload the pacey wideman as they look to rebuild for another promotion bid next season.
Flitcroft said: "Ben did really well for us when we brought him to the club and is very popular in the dressing room but we are looking to progress and to move on.
"We do not have unlimited funds at our disposal and this kind of shape shifting in the squad is part of the progression that we have to make.
"We obviously wish Ben well and will do all that we can to help him get fixed up with a new club."
