Preston boss Alan Irvine believes Michael Tonge's loan move to Deepdale can breath new life into his career.
The 26-year-old Stoke midfielder has not featured in the Barclays Premier League this season and has made just three appearances in the Carling Cup.
Tonge has joined North End on loan until December 28 and could make his debut in Monday night's televised clash with Newcastle at Deepdale.
Irvine said: "Michael is a creative player. He is good on the ball and he is a player who wants to take the ball.
"He is a nice passer and he has got a very good work-rate. I think he will bring all those qualities to our team.
"Michael is obviously not getting the first-team action he wants at the moment at Stoke, so he is very pleased to be coming out and to be given the opportunity to play games."
