Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott was pleased with the endeavours of his players as they beat neighbours Newcastle Town 4-2 in their second pre-season friendly.

Danny Glover, Simon Richman and a brace from James Lawrie put the League Two side 4-0 up, and although the North West Counties League side scored two late consolation goals, Sinnott was glad to get a win under his belt.

He told the club's official website: "It was a good workout. They asked us questions on a full-size pitch against opposition we don't play week in and out.

"We are here to get ourselves mentally and physically prepared for the start of the season and their is no short cut to that, but I thought the players worked hard again.

"There are things we need to work on, but those things will come."
