Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott insists he would much rather his side hit top form towards the end of the season than in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Sinnott has endured a disappointing start to his tenure at Vale Park having suffered relegation from League One just six months after taking the reins.
However, he is steadily building up his squad for an assault on League Two and believes it is vital that his side peak at the right time.
"Teams can start very well but then tail away or teams can start a little bit slower and then come on stronger," said Sinnott.
"This is my sixth year in management, which is still in the early days, but if anyone asks me if I'd rather have a storming finish or a storming start I'd always go for the storming finish because that's when things are decided.
"But we are looking to be successful and we will work extremely hard at achieving that."
