Scout Steve Joesbury insists Port Vale are only interested in players who would be "proud" to play for the club.
Boss Lee Sinnott has already brought in Nuneaton Borough midfielder Rob Taylor and Doncaster's Anthony Griffith as he begins the work of building for life in League Two.
The pair were both brimming with enthusiasm at being handed the chance to play at Vale Park next season and Joesbury revealed that is an important quality for him to identify when assessing players.
He told the Sentinel: "We do our homework and go into a player's character and talk to people who know them and their background.
"We want to bring players here who want to play, not people who want to get a two-year contract and see out the last two years of their playing careers.
"We want people who are proud to be Vale players. We won't just be another club to them."
