Midfielder Karl Duguid has revealed a desire to stay in the Championship was the main reason for him choosing to join Plymouth.

The 30-year-old had 14 years with Colchester and played more than 400 games for the club after coming through their youth system.

But after the Us' relegation, Duguid was desperate to stay in the second tier and signed a two-year contract with Argyle.

"It was tough with Colchester last season," he told the club's official website.

"Obviously, we ended up being relegated but I enjoyed playing in the Championship and that is part of the reason I have come to Plymouth.

"I want to be in the Championship. I am 30 years old now and I want to be playing at the highest level possible, and I am going to enjoy it again."
