Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson claims Wolves have finally given up in their bid to lure prized striker Aaron Mclean to Molineux.

Mick McCarthy's Wanderers have had two offers in excess of £1m turned down by the London Road side this summer, with Posh judging such evaluations to be someway off the mark.

And now Ferguson believes McCarthy is set to look elsewhere in his search for a prolific marksman.

He told the Birmingham Post: "The deal is dead as far as I am concerned. Wolves made two bids and they would have gone higher, but I spoke with Mick McCarthy and told him they couldn't afford Aaron.

"He has accepted that fact and will now look elsewhere and that's excellent news for us. We don't want to lose any of our better players and Aaron certainly falls into that category."
