Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has revealed the club are interested in signing Paul Coutts from Scottish non-league side Cove Rangers.

Coutts, 19, has spent time training with Darren Ferguson's team and is expected to join up with the squad for pre-season training as Posh look to seal the move.

Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "Paul spent a week down here training and he is one for the future. I suspect he will probably be asked to come down again once the lads are back in training.

"We will need to do a deal with Cove if we decide to take him, but that has not been done at this stage and it will really depend on whether or not we get either of the Premiership players we are keen on."

Fry also confirmed that, despite reported interest, Ferguson has not instructed the board to secure the services of Port Vale's Danny Whittaker, saying: "He is not a name the manager has mentioned to me, he is not a player we have been talking to and I couldn't even tell you what position he plays in."
