Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis made his England Under-21 debut on Thursday night, coming off the bench in the 2-0 friendly victory against Wales.

The former Norwich trainee was given 45 minutes to impress in front of Fabio Capello and kept a clean sheet as the Young Lions strolled to victory thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and a penalty from Tom Huddlestone.

Lewis told Posh's official website: "I knew I would be playing 45 minutes and I just wanted to do my best.

"Hopefully it's the first of many caps for my country and I look forward to playing regularly in the future.

"It was a great evening for me and a good way to end the season."

The 6ft 5in youngster has helped Darren Ferguson's men to the League Two Championship during the 2007/08 campaign.
