Oldham face a potential banana skin after being handed a trip to League Two neighbours Rochdale in the Carling Cup first round.

The Lancashire rivals have not played each other since 1974, when they met in the old third division, but John Sheridan's men will fancy their chances of progressing into the second round.

Rochdale narrowly lost out on promotion last season after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Stockport in the League Two play-off final.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 11.
