Oldham assistant manager Tommy Wright admits the club's next target in the transfer market is to sign a left-sided player.
The Latics have already made a raft of new signings in Greg Fleming, Kieran Lee, Chris O'Grady and Dale Stephens.
But Wright is keen to bring in a player who can operate at left-back and on the left side of midfield.
Wright told the Oldham Chronicle: "It's an area we are looking at closely because you need to get the right sort of balance in your squad.
"We've been short of left-sided players and we are trying to sort that out, although it's tricky because there aren't a lot of them around.
"We want competition in every area of the team, which is something, partly through injuries, that we lacked at times last season."
