Oldham boss John Sheridan believes his side need a handful of new recruits if they are to challenge for promotion next season.

The Latics finished the current campaign in eighth place in League One, but their play-off bid was undermined by a crippling casualty list.

However, with a number of new additions set to arrive at Boundary Park in the summer, Sheridan is hopeful his men can compete more strongly more term.

"Eighth is an excellent return considering what we've been missing all season," said Sheridan.

"Now we can hopefully strengthen with four or five new players this summer to give us one or two things and make us a better squad.

"If we can get the right blend we've got a chance next season because we've shown over the last two seasons we can match anyone."
