Shrewsbury have broken their club transfer record with the signing of striker Grant Holt from Nottingham Forest for £170,000.
Boss Paul Simpson, who has also snapped up defender Michael Jackson on a two-year deal after he was released by Blackpool, smashed the previous record of £100,000 when Shrews secured the services of John Dungworth back in 1979 and Mark Blake in 1990.
Holt has signed a three-year contract with the League Two outfit.
"We are really fortunate that we are in a position where the chairman is backing me to bring in these types of players," Simpson told the club's official website. "In Michael Jackson and Grant Holt we have two players who could become good signings.
"Grant has scored goals during his career and is a player who will score, he's a workman-like striker who gets hold of the ball, can go past people and is a good finisher. All I want to see is him pulling on the Shrewsbury Town shirt, performing for us and striking up a partnership with one or two of the other strikers we have here.
"Michael's a very experienced player who has been a captain all throughout his career, he was part of the Blackpool side that won promotion from League One to the Championship and played 30+ games in the Championship last year."
