Northampton chairman David Cardoza has urged striker Adebayo Akinfenwa to sign a new deal to stay at Sixfields.

Manager Stuart Gray has offered Akinfenwa a new deal after the former Swansea man scored seven times for the club this year, despite still recovering from the effects of a broken leg.

Cardoza said: "We'd like to keep Bayo and I have made him a really big offer.

"I'd very much doubt that other clubs will offer him what we are but we will have to see.

"We have offered him a year with an option for another year depending on how many games he starts.

"We're not too fussed about his fitness and we think he will come through."
