Ben Spies has promised to "give it everything" this weekend as he looks to claim a stunning FIM Superbike World Championship title at the first attempt.
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for the Yamaha Italia team in his debut campaign, winning 13 of the 26 races to date.
He enters this Sunday's finale at Portimao 10 points adrift of series leader Noriyuki Haga and knows that a double win can see him clinch the title before he moves to MotoGP next year.
"I can't wait to get to the circuit and get set up for Sunday's races," said Spies. "We've been fighting hard for race wins all year, and as a rookie on a new bike I think we've achieved some pretty good results.
"My focus is completely on going for two race wins on Sunday.
"I would love to be able to deliver the title for the team as they really deserve it and have worked so hard to make it possible."
Xerox Ducati rider Haga is desperate to seal his first title. The Japanese star has twice been a runner-up and finished third in the title race on four other occasions.
"This year I am in a better position and now everything comes down to this last event." he said.
"My strategy won't be any different from normal; I always go out with the aim to win and I always give 100%.
"I've finished second or third in the last five seasons and so all I am missing is the title win - a title I hope to be able to bring home to Ducati and to Japan this weekend."
