Jorge Lorenzo has taken full responsibility for the incident which saw the Fiat Yamaha rider crash out of the FIM MotoGP World Championship race at Jerez in Spain.
Lorenzo was in fourth place when he fell from his machine after going into his home race with high expectations.
Lorenzo said: "The crash on Sunday was my fault and there is no reason to go looking for excuses. There's no point blaming the tyres or saying the track was hotter than on Saturday, because if I had been quicker at the start of the race I wouldn't have had to risk it so much at the end."
His eagerness to catch third-placed Casey Stoner also led to Lorenzo pushing too hard.
"I'm not sure what I would do exactly if the race was run again, but it's clear in my mind now that chasing Stoner down was more risky than I had realised before the crash," he said.
"The good thing about having learned to keep calm and control myself is that my thoughts are cooler and more calculated, so now I don't get so angry about crashes like this."
