Accrington chairman Eric Whalley has confirmed the club have rejected two bids from League Two rivals Morecambe for midfielder Ian Craney.

Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy revealed on Wednesday that he would "be working right up to kick-off" to sign the 25-year-old.

Craney returned to the Fraser Eagle Stadium in the January transfer window in a club record transfer from Swansea but failed to find top form in the closing stages of the campaign.

Whalley is determined the club will not be short-changed should the transfer come to fruition and told PA Sport: "Morecambe did express an interest in Ian in May, and although they did make a couple of offers they were not anywhere near a figure for which we would be prepared to let him go for.

"We paid £85,000 to Swansea for Ian in January and we'd be looking for a bid worth a little more than that to move things forward. We haven't heard anything since we rejected their second offer at the start of June so it is a little surprising that they have only just decided make their interest public.

"From the Premier League to non-league every player has a price. Ian has shown that he is a very talented player and if Morecambe are serious about wanting to make him one of their players then they will have to make a serious offer."
