Morecambe goalkeeper Scott Davies has signed a new two-year deal with the League Two club.

The 21-year-old graduated from the youth-team ranks at Christie Park and manager Sammy McIlroy has now guaranteed his services until at least 2010.

Davies is set to compete with Barry Roche for a starting berth at Christie Park this season but admits he is looking forward to the competition for places.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to have signed for another two years and I aim to challenge Barry all the way for the number one spot.

"I thought I did well last season when I came into the side but I am only young and I will keep on improving."

Boss Sammy McIlroy had nothing but praise for the youngster, and said: "I have no doubt Scott has a big future ahead of him. He is still very young and still learning but he was brilliant for us at the end of last season and I am sure he will get better and better over the next two years."
