Morecambe new-boy Diarmuid O'Carroll admits he "can't wait" for the start of the new season.

The former Celtic striker put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal at Christie Park on Tuesday.

O'Carroll, 20, who was reserve-team top scorer for Celtic last season, has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at all youth levels and is relishing the opportunity to join up with Sammy McIlroy's men.

He told the club's official website: "As a young Irish footballer it was my ambition to play for Celtic and I love the place.

"But I have to think of my career now and look to make my mark.

"A few clubs were interested in signing me but I liked what Sammy McIlroy had to say about the place. I came down a few weeks ago and it seems a really friendly club and I can't wait to get started."
