Striker Simon Brown has signed for Wrexham following his release by rivals Mansfield.
The Dragons were relegated from the Football League along with the Stags last season after finishing bottom of League Two.
Brown, 24, was allowed to leave Field Mill last month after making over 100 appearances for the club since joining from West Brom in 2004.
"I see this very much as a case of one step back to achieve two going forward," Brown told Wrexham's official website. "I want to be playing League football again as soon as possible, and by coming to Wrexham I feel I can achieve that goal quickly.
"It is a great shame that both Wrexham and Mansfield find themselves out of the Football League, but I do believe that Wrexham have a chance of getting things right on the pitch and giving it a good shot at going back up.
"When there was a change of manager at Mansfield, the writing was on the wall for me. Under the new man (Paul Holland) I featured less and less as different players were added to the squad in an attempt to lift the club. It was disappointing to be released, even though I knew it was coming."
