Mansfield chief executive Stephen Booth has revealed that the club's takeover saga is `close' to completion.

Booth was speaking at a public meeting for Stags supporters on Monday evening, providing the first update on the situation since May 9.

Mansfield, who will begin next season as a non-league club for the first time in 77 years following their relegation from League Two, have been in takeover talks with several parties for over 18 months.

Booth refused to be drawn on a timescale for completion of the deal or the identity of the potential new owner, but said: "I believe I am close to an agreement that would be in the best interests of the club."

Glapwell chairman Colin Hancock and controversial former York owner John Batchelor are believed to be among those in talks about buying the club.
