Ipswich striker Dean Bowditch is determined to repay the faith shown in him by boss Jim Magilton.

The 22-year-old, who appeared 10 times for the Tractor Boys in an injury-plagued season last time out, believed he would be among the players released by the manager at the end of the campaign.

However, Bowditch was offered a reprieve by Magilton who offered him a new one-year deal and the forward is adamant he will not let himself or his boss down.

He told the club's official website: "With my contract up last season and me not being in the first team, I did start to think that maybe my days were coming to an end at this club.

"The gaffer spoke to me in the summer and said he believed in me but I needed to show more belief in myself.

"It's unfinished business for me - I've got things to prove to the manager, to the staff, to the fans but mainly to myself that I can be a success at Championship level."
