Pablo Counago has hailed Spain's Euro 2008 success as "a great moment" for the nation.
The Spanish striker, who watched his countrymen beat Germany 1-0 in the final in Vienna from his home in Ipswich, insisted they fully deserved their first major tournament win in 44 years.
Counago told the club's official website: "It is a great moment for Spain.
"For many years the football team has been criticised for not getting to the end of tournaments, but now that can change and the team has proved they can win a major competition.
"The team played a good game from the start of the competition and I think most people agree that Spain deserved to win the European Championships.
"Everyone has been celebrating back home. Winning the tournament is massive for Spain."
