Hereford are waiting to find out the results of an archaeological dig underneath the Blackfriars End at Edgar Street as the planned redevelopment looks to move one step closer.

Archaeologists have been working in two trenches that were dug out along the flat area of the terrace last week in order to ensure there are no historic artefacts of any sort under the proposed site before potential building work commences.

The procedure has now been completed and the League Two club are awaiting the results of the report before they can put forward their proposed plans.

Speaking before the dig, chairman Graham Turner told the club's official website: "We're obviously hoping that nothing will be found and there won't be any hold-ups in the way of progressing the redevelopment.

"In order to apply for planning we've needed the bat certificate to say there are no bats present, and we also need the archaeological dig to ensure there are no ruins there.

"Once the dig is completed we need to firm up the agreement with the Richardsons over the ground then we can submit our planning applications."
