Hartlepool will play Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup first round for the second year running.

The two sides met in the opening round of last season's competition when David Foley's second-half brace secured 10-man Pools a 2-1 win at Glanford Park after Martin Paterson had put Scunthorpe ahead.

Pools were then knocked out by Sheffield Wednesday in the second round after a 2-1 defeat and will now play host to The Iron at Victoria Park during the week commencing August 11.
