Americans Tim Petrovic and Leif Olson held the first-round lead at the Turning Stone Resort Championship near New York today.

Petrovic, 43, last won in 2005 when he took the Zurich Classic of New Orleans but was on good form at the Atunyote Golf Club, Verona today with a six-under-par round of 66 to lead by one stroke alongside Olson.

Twenty-eight-year-old Olson has yet to win on the PGA Tour but turned in seven birdies and a solitary bogey en route to his 66.

Australian John Senden was tied in third with American pair Matt Kuchar and Vaughn Taylor after 67s.

Englishman Justin Rose, currently ranked 62nd in the world, was in a group of 11 tied for 13th after his first round 69 alongside fellow Europeans Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden and Scot Martin Laird.

KJ Choi's 70 put him among a huge pack in 24th.

American Eric Axley endured a nightmare round with a quadruple bogey eight on the 13th hole clearly the lowlight to leave him dead last on 11-over.

Due to an early dusk a handful of players were due to finish in the morning.
