England's Samantha Head made a fine start to stand joint second at the end of the first round of the SAS Ladies Masters.

The Bedford-based 36-year-old hit nine birdies at Larvik Golf Club in Norway - including six in a row from the ninth - to lie seven under alongside Italy's Veronica Zorzi and Frenchwoman Sophie Giquel.

That trio was four shots adrift of leader Lisa Holm Sorensen who recorded a blistering, bogey-free, 11-under-par round of 62.

Sorensen's round equalled the lowest ever score on the Ladies European Tour, a record previously held by England's Kirsty Taylor and Swede Nina Reis.

"I'm really pleased because I've been working really hard and it just clicked," said Sorensen.

Promising English 21-year-old Melissa Reid is a further shot back from Head, in another group of three at six under that also features AIB Irish Open champion Diana Luna.
