Southampton are in talks with Colchester over the potential signing of Dean Hammond.

The 26-year-old former Brighton midfielder is discussing the switch with Saints boss Alan Pardew, who hopes to complete the deal within the next 24 hours.

The loss of Hammond, who is the U's captain, would be a further blow for United having lost manager Paul Lambert to Norwich on Tuesday morning.
