The curtain-raiser to the County Championship season between MCC and the county champions, traditionally held at Lord's, could next year be played with pink balls under lights in Abu Dhabi, according to the MCC's chief executive.
Keith Bradshaw claims the MCC are thinking about the changes for next season's opener against Durham.
"It is definitely an option we are considering," Bradshaw said in the Daily Telegraph.
"We're determined to organise some three or four-day cricket under lights using a pink ball, and this is a good opportunity.
"It is one of many options, and at an embryonic stage, but we think it would be good for the development of the game.
"Ideally we would like to hold a [trial match] at Lord's but we have certain restrictions using the lights, so there is the possibility of scheduling the match overseas."
