Steve Harmison will find out later on Monday whether his recent county form has been enough to force an England recall when they announce a 16-man training squad in preparation for the Ashes.
The 30-year-old Durham fast bowler has not featured for England this summer while they cruised to comfortable Test and one-day series against West Indies with the selectors instead choosing to look at county team-mate Graham Onions.
Harmison has responded by claiming 30 wickets in six championship matches, including 16 in the last two outings against Lancashire and Warwickshire, to ensure his name will again be debated by England's selectors.
The conclusions to those discussions this week will finally be revealed at lunch-time today when National Selector Geoff Miller announces a 16-man Ashes training squad to get together before the start of the five Test series in Cardiff on July 8.
Miller will also announce the line-up to face Warwickshire in a three-day warm-up match at Edgbaston starting on July 1 and the Lions side to play Australia in a four-day match at Worcester beginning on the same day.
But if Harmison's name is not included in England's extended squad, it would be the clearest signal yet that the selectors have taken a decision and are looking at other options.
Another member of England's victorious 2005 Ashes-winning squad who will be keeping a keen eye on Miller's announcement will be former captain Michael Vaughan, who is yet to record a significant score this season for Yorkshire.
Vaughan has not featured for his country since stepping down as England captain following the third Test against South Africa at Edgbaston last summer, although he has continually stated his desire to feature again in the Ashes.
Since the start of this summer, however, Vaughan has hardly pressed his case for a recall after scoring only 159 first-class runs at an average of 19.88 in six matches with a top score of 43 against Worcestershire last week.
He has also suffered a recurrence of the problems to his right knee which sidelined him for over a year and forced him to miss the recent championship match with Somerset.
