First-team coach Steve Holland has hailed Crewe's pre-season trip to Bulgaria as "a complete success".

The Alex returned on Thursday from their jaunt to eastern Europe where they played FC Maritsa. Holland praised the professional attitude of his players and their conduct both on and off the pitch.

"The trip was very good, a complete success. All our objectives were met," Holland told the club's official website.

"Everyone has returned fit and unscathed, which is always a concern at this time of the year, and 22 of the players got 45 minutes under their belts.

"The players look in good shape for this stage of pre-season and now we are looking forward to playing some more games in England.

"It gave some of the new faces the chance to meet their team-mates and find their feet. The trip was a great opportunity for us to enhance the reputation of the club."
