Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland believes new goalkeeper Steve Collis will be a calming influence on the Alex defence this season.
The former Southend keeper arrived at Gresty Road earlier this week and with Ben Williams and Owain fon Williams having both left, is likely to start the new campaign the club's first-choice stopper.
And Holland told the club's official website: "Steve has done it at this level before, so he will be hoping he can make the grade and establish himself as a regular number one with us.
"From all the feedback we have received and from the times we have watched him play, the main observation made is that he is a calm goalkeeper. He is not an excitable type of goalkeeper, who will make reckless decisions.
"Steve is proven from that aspect of things and we are sure that he will fit the bill."
