Steve Holland is tipping new signing Joel Grant to shine for Crewe and create excitement for the club's fans.

The 20-year-old, who can play on either flank or down the middle, arrived from Aldershot earlier this week and Holland strongly believes he will add a key spark that the League One club has been missing.

"We are okay with midfield numbers but we wanted a player who could offer us something different and carry the ball, like David Vaughan used to do for us," Holland told the club's official website. "He could create something out of nothing, beat his opposite number and create opportunities for others and problems for the opposition.

"The club missed a player of that ability throughout all of last year. Joel will do something out of the ordinary and hopefully cause some excitement. That is why we went after him. He had a great season with Aldershot and creates chances.

"We are looking to improve all areas and, although we have a lot of midfield players, we have always said that if the opportunity arose to bring in a wide player who could offer us something different then we would do it."

Elsewhere, Crewe's trip to Tranmere has been changed to Friday October 24 (7.45 k/o).
