Steve Holland has made an attacking midfielder a priority in the summer as he looks to push his Crewe side up the League One table next season.

A lack of goals from the middle saw the Alex struggle to stay up, but first-team coach Holland believes some new additions could make a big difference next year.

He said: "We know the issues that need to be addressed and adding some athleticism and goals from midfield is one of them.

"We think an athletic midfielder would help us and a player on the flank who can add to our goal tally."

Holland is keen to avoid another relegation battle next season, adding: "Last season we didn't have many who were scoring regularly and when Nicky Maynard was injured we were really struggling. We have to avoid that happening again."
