Chairman Stephen Vaughan has set Chester the target of promotion this season and believes a 74-point haul would be enough to secure his side a play-off place.

Boss Simon Davies has recruited Anthony Barry, Jay Harris, David Mannix, Paul Taylor, Ryan Lowe and Damien Mozika this summer and Vaughan admitted he holds high hopes for City's forthcoming League Two campaign.

"Everyone at the club is full of anticipation at this time of the year and I'm quietly confident that we can do well," he told the club's official website.

"We've made six new signings who are all of the right age and experience, and we've got a new young and enthusiastic manager and assistant manager, as well as a fitness and conditioning coach.

"I'm now looking forward to seeing the squad pulling together and achieving their goals.

"Our first aim as a club is to reach 56 points which we achieved on our return to the Football League, and then we'll be trying to hit 74 points which should secure a play-off place."
